Wonder Woman Forever Stamps

With the long-awaited film now in theaters, the nation is a buzz about the iconic superheroine.  Last October, the Postal Service™ released a series of stamps to commemorate her influence on millions of people throughout the decades.

The 20-stamp pane celebrates Wonder Woman’s 75th anniversary and features four unique designs depicting the heroine during different eras of comic book history: Golden Age (1941–55), Silver Age (1956–72), Bronze Age (1973–86) and Modern Age (1987–present).

Fans, including actress Lynda Carter who played Wonder Woman on the 1970s series, took to social media to express their excitement about the stamp release. From the first-day-of-issue event going forward, USPS® has encouraged fans to keep sharing the news by using the hashtags #WonderWomanForever and #WonderWoman75.

Wonder Woman in Comics

Wonder Woman debuted in All Star Comics in 1941, during a time when female super heroes were rare. Since then, she has become a cultural icon who has inspired generations of comic book fans.

Wonder Woman has also had several makeovers over the years, as her different looks through the eras reflect a change in both her storyline and in society. For instance, during the Golden Age she wore a knee-length skirt, but by the 1960s, her skirt had been replaced by a bodysuit and lasso.

While the Oct. 7 dedication received overwhelming and enthusiastic applause, this is not the first time Wonder Woman has appeared on a postage stamp. In 2006, she and other DC Super Heroes were honored on a collectible stamp sheet. Although the 2006 stamps are no longer sold by the Postal Service, savvy collectors might find them through independent stamp dealers.

The 2016 Wonder Woman stamps and limited collectibles are available at The Postal Store®.
