Melissa Lomax

Melissa has enjoyed working for the United States Postal  Service for almost two decades. She fondly recalls when she first started with a seasonal position as a Casual City Carrier during the summer after graduating from high school.  Melissa has dedicated herself to each and every position that she has held within the Postal Service – city carrier, rural carrier, Acting Postmaster, and Postmaster - while focusing on the various facets of delivery to management.
Melissa continues to rally her postal team by coordinating positive postal events and providing the stories that are inspired from such events. While holding a full time position at the Postal Service, Melissa earned her Associates and Bachelor’s in Science degrees in Business Administration with a focus on marketing and communications.

Throughout her life, Melissa has enjoyed the personal freedom and unique expression that the art of writing has given her.  She remembers the pen pals that she had as a child and that feeling of complete joy when she opened her mailbox and saw the many letters strewn with doodles and stickers just waiting to be opened.  During the last ten years as Postmaster in various offices, Melissa recollects her customers and specific instances that could be summed up with the old adage: “all in a day’s work of a Postmaster.”

You can currently find Melissa continuing to offer her community the finest customer service while leading her employees by example and complete engagement.  Melissa truly enjoys working as Postmaster of the Avalon, NJ 08202 post office where her email signature states: “Avalon, where it’s Cooler by a Mile.”  Melissa is humbled and grateful for the opportunity to be a contributing author on the USPS Blog and looks forward to providing local positive postal news reporting on a national level.  Melissa would like to recognize the many people throughout her life and postal career that have inspired and supported her to reach such personal and professional fulfillment.
